Why this page exists
The old version of this website talked about "our team", "years of experience" and a long list of satisfied customers. We do not publish any of that. This page explains, plainly, what the website is and how a roof enquiry moves from you to a roofer.
What we are
Roofing Contractors Newcastle is a referral service for roof work in Newcastle and Lake Macquarie. It is a website, a phone line and an enquiry form, plus a library of articles about roofs in this part of NSW.
When you get in touch, we:
- record your suburb, the roof type and what is happening
- identify an independent local contractor who works in your area and does that type of job
- pass your details to them so they can contact you
- stay available if you have questions about the process
What we are not
- We are not a roofing contractor, and we do not carry out roofing work.
- We do not employ roofers or supervise their work.
- We do not hold your money or manage payments.
- We do not publish testimonials, star ratings, project counts, warranties or years-in-business claims.
- We do not give legal, financial or engineering advice.
What we ask of the contractors we work with
We ask the contractors we work with to:
- hold the NSW licences the work requires, including NSW Fair Trading contractor licences and, for asbestos removal, SafeWork NSW licences
- carry appropriate insurance
- inspect the roof in person before quoting
- provide written, itemised quotes
- explain why they recommend repair or replacement, with photos
- follow NSW requirements on contracts, deposits and home building compensation cover
We cannot guarantee every contractor meets every expectation every time, which is why the next section matters.
What you should still do
- Check the contractor's licence on the NSW Government licence check.
- Ask for insurance certificates.
- Get a written quote and contract.
- Keep the deposit within the NSW cap.
- Get more than one quote for big jobs.
Our guide to choosing a roofing contractor and licences, insurance and certifications explain each step.
Why use a referral service at all?
A fair question. Some reasons people find it useful:
- Matching. A slate repair, an asbestos roof and a commercial box gutter need different specialists. We route enquiries to contractors who do that type of job.
- Local coverage. Contractors who work in your part of Newcastle or around the lake.
- Information. The articles on this site aim to help you ask better questions and compare quotes properly, whoever you hire.
You can, of course, find roofers directly. If you do, the same checks apply.
Where we cover
Newcastle and Lake Macquarie: the city and harbour suburbs, the beaches from Stockton to Merewether, the western suburbs such as Wallsend and Kotara, and the lake suburbs including Charlestown, Cardiff, Warners Bay and Belmont.
The articles on this site
We write about how roofs fail in this climate, what the options are, what drives cost, and how to deal with contractors, councils and insurers. Each article is dated and attributes regulatory information to the agency responsible. Where rules may have changed, we say so and point you to the source. Start with the guides page.
What happens to your enquiry, step by step
When a message comes in through the form or the phone, it is read during business hours and matched against the suburb and the type of work. An emergency, such as water coming through a ceiling, is flagged as urgent. The details go to one contractor who covers that area and does that kind of job, rather than being sprayed to a list of businesses who all ring you at once. If that contractor cannot help, for example because they are booked out after a storm, we try another.
From then on, you deal with the contractor directly. They book the inspection, prepare the quote, and agree terms with you. If you decide not to go ahead, that is the end of it: there is no fee and no obligation.
Why we are cautious with claims
Roofing marketing is full of numbers: years of experience, roofs completed, five-star averages, warranty lengths. Some of those claims are true and some are not, and from a website you cannot tell which. Because we do not do the work, we do not make claims of that kind at all. We would rather spend the space explaining how to check a contractor for yourself, which works no matter who you end up hiring.
